Solar Power

Why not use the sun's free energy to heat your water and reduce your bills?

Most homes get power from a supplier of choice via the local grid (power lines). By adding in solar energy system to a home, the home can harvest/generate its own electricity. First the sun light must be captured and converted from light to electricity, via PV cells. By grouping these cells into panels, you can generate enough energy to run your hot water system. The power generated is converted to AC by an inverter which can be used in to power your energy needs. If there is excess power generated, it can be stored or sold back to the national grid, gaining credits for the homeowner.

There are two types of solar power, solar electric and solar thermal. In Ireland, it's most common to utilise solar thermal energy to heat water rather than to power the whole house.

As electricity and gas suppliers in Ireland continuously raise their rates, adding a solar power system to your home can decrease your energy bills, saving you money, and in turn benefiting the environment by using less fossil fuel generated energy.

Some of the things to consider prior to adding solar to your property are

  • Determine if you are a good candidate for solar
  • Consider your budget and the amount of solar energy required
  • Work with Eco Team to determine the optimal solar product for your needs
  • Installation and testing
  • Submit paperwork for grant (if applicable)
